2.32  Outside Employment

Prior approval by department head and/or dean is required in order for any full-time faculty and non-classified administrative staff member to engage in outside employment. Such employment for compensation is authorized by Board of Trustees policy 450.1 provided this employment does not interfere with the employee’s duties (such as by creating a conflict of interest and/or commitment) and provided that the employee receives written approval from their department head and/or dean in advance of the employment. Similarly, employees planning to engage in outside employment must disclose by means of the appropriate form any relationships or activities which might give rise to conflicts, or the appearance thereof, with their duties, responsibilities or obligations to the University of Arkansas. Full-time faculty (30 hours or more per week) must receive prior approval from the department head/chair, dean and Provost before teaching for (including via distance learning), conducting research or creative activity, or accepting any other type of appointment with another academic institution.
