Radiation Safety Committee

Appointed by the Provost

The Radiation Safety Committee recommends policies and monitors implementation of and compliance with laws, regulations, policies and practices relating to the campus Broad Scope and Specific radiological licenses, including the purchase, shipment, use, control, transfer and disposal of radioisotopes and other sources of ionizing radiation. The committee also recommends policies and monitors implementation of and compliance with laws, regulations, policies and practices regarding the purchase, shipment, use, control, transfer and disposal of sources of non-ionizing radiation.

Membership consists of three faculty members experienced in the safe use of radioactive materials, one each from the College of Engineering, Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences, and J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences; one faculty member experienced in the safe use of sources of non-ionizing radiation from any of the above colleges; a representative from the Pat Walker Health Center; Radiation Research Technician; and a graduate student, all voting members. Ex officio/voting: the manager of the Office of Environmental Health & Safety. Ex officio/non-voting: the Radiation Safety Officer; the Assistant Radiation Safety Officer; the Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation; the director of Research Compliance.

The provost will designate a chairperson from the committee members and may appoint additional members, as appropriate.
