Thanking Our Faculty - April 7, 2025

Dear Faculty,

Today is the beginning of Faculty Appreciation Week.  I’d like to express my sincere gratitude to you for the work you do to advance our university and fulfill our land-grant mission. As faculty, you support our strategic priorities as an institution through your dedication to student success and commitment to research and teaching excellence.

In terms of enhancing student success, you have a significant influence on our students’ education and professions.  You engage with our students every day and have the power to affect the academic and professional journeys of thousands of students over the course of your academic career.  You provide our students with a quality education and help them pursue careers in various fields of study through your outstanding teaching and mentorship.  You are the reason why we continue to break records in enrollment, retention and graduation rates year after year.

When it comes to pursuing academic and research excellence, you, our faculty, continue to increase the amount of research and scholarship conducted each year.  The research that you and your colleagues conduct leads to new breakthroughs every day, which include discovering a gene linked to kidney disease, advancements in wireless technology, new information about early hominins in Eurasia, and so much more.  You’ve also been recognized for your scholarship and incredible work, which include receiving awards from the Mid-America Arts Alliance, receiving an Emmy for a documentary on accents in the region, and receiving recognition as being among the 200 most influential education scholars in the country. The amount of research and scholarship being produced by our faculty is astounding.

To thank you and show our appreciation for your substantial contributions to the university, the Office for Faculty Affairs is providing a number of discounts, giveaways and special events for you to enjoy this week.  Learn more in this Arkansas News story.

Thanks again for everything you do for our institution.  The University of Arkansas wouldn’t be as successful without all of you.

Best regards,

Terry Martin, Ph.D.
