Building and Grounds Committee

Appointed by the Chancellor

The Building and Grounds Committee functions as an advisory board to the Chancellor. Its membership reviews and makes general recommendations concerning the use of campus facilities within the context of the professional staff’s ongoing management of campus space use. The committee is concerned with policy matters affecting the development and use of the physical facilities rather than day-to-day operations or specific designs. The committee serves as a channel of communications among faculty members and administrators as they discuss programmatic priorities for new buildings and renovations of existing buildings and evaluate policies for enhancing and preserving the university grounds in a way that supports the academic community.

At the request of the Chancellor, before a particular significant new building or renovation is initiated, the Associate Vice Chancellor for Facilities Management will inform the Building and Grounds Committee and seek its counsel regarding how the project may affect the academic community. This includes substantial landscape projects that are independent from major building construction. Repair, maintenance, and small renovation projects are excluded from review.

Membership consists of one faculty member from each school and college (excluding the Graduate School and International Education and Honors College); three dean’s representatives (to rotate by college in the following order: AFLS, ARCH, ARSC, WCOB, EDUC, ENGR, LAWW); one representative from the Division of Student Affairs; one representative appointed by the Dean of Students who will represent the needs and concerns for physical access; one representative from the Office of the Provost; the Associate Vice Chancellor for Facilities Management; the Director of the University of Arkansas Police Department; one undergraduate student; one graduate student; and the Director of FM Planning and Design as ex-officio.
